Dharma Sunday – The Magic of Bodhicitta: Meeting the Yogi Shabkar (Online)

This morning we will dive into the meaning of a song of meditative experience by Shabkar, the great wandering yogi whose profound example invites us to recognize our intrinsic wholeness. He spent many years in retreat in the caves where earlier saints such as Milarepa had meditated before him. Living the life of an itinerant yogi, Shabkar offered his teachings to all, including bandits and wild animals, before passing away in 1835. Shabkar was a poet of enlightenment who crossed Tibet from East to West to East; and like Milarepa, he had an amazing ability to improvise heart songs for all occasions. The open sky brought forth songs of natural great wholeness; the fragility of a flower reminded him of the fragility of this human life; birdsong and the flow of water were resonant with loving awareness.

Dharma Sundays with Natural Dharma Fellowship are now taking place most Sundays. These sessions, led by highly trained NDF Dharma and guest teachers, include guided meditation, teachings, and time for discussions. A wide range of topics are offered at the discretion of the teacher. On one Sunday per month, we are offering our year-long Dharma Dialogues program during this same time slot.
