Matt Fritts

Matt Fritts has been meditating ever since he took a college course on Buddhist meditation taught by Jeffrey Hopkins, the Dalai Lama’s chief English interpreter for many years. He has had the very fortunate karma and opportunity to receive teachings and initiations from H.H. the Dalai Lama, H.E. Ling Rinpoche, Ven. Gyumed Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Jampa, and other high lamas within Tibetan Buddhism’s Gelug lineage.

Matt began practicing with Natural Dharma Fellowship in 2020 and quickly became enamored with NDF’s innovative and embodied approach to the Dharma, as well as with the warmth and sincerity of the NDF Sangha. In addition to meditating, “Yoga Matt” has been practicing and teaching yoga for 25 years, having completed yoga teacher training programs at Satchidananda Ashram (Yogaville, VA) and in southern India.

As a public health professional, Matt currently works at the University of Virginia (his alma mater), where he plans and manages programs to support employees’ mental health and well-being. In his free time, he loves hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains with friends and his dog, playing the piano, and hosting a classical piano show on a community radio station in Charlottesville, VA.

Matt feels honored to serve you as a member of NDF’s Board and enjoys the opportunity to contribute his skills and energy toward the growth and future of NDF, his Dharma home.
