Cultivating Stable, Vivid Awareness

Cultivating Stable, Vivid Awareness

· August 29, 2021

This five-day retreat will provide an opportunity for the deep practice of a progression of shamatha meditation practices that have been taught for centuries as an essential first stage of the path to realizing the luminous and empty nature of mind.

Drawing from the seventeenth century text The Union of Mahamudra and Dzogchen and relying on the practical advice in contemporary commentaries, our days will include sessions of detailed instruction as well as time to integrate what you learn in silent practice.

To round out our experience, each day will begin with instruction and practice of the preliminaries, a group of practices that functions to remove obstacles to your shamatha practice. During the last session of each day we will relax with inspiring stories of the Mahasiddhas and their songs of realizations.

The sources for these practices are considered to be advanced Buddhism, but this clear and systematic presentation is suitable for all levels. Long time practitioners may find an exhilarating new approach, but even beginners will learn a comprehensive foundation and full spectrum of meditation skills to take home.
