Igniting the Fire of Fierce Love: Wrathful Compassion

Igniting the Fire of Fierce Love: Wrathful Compassion

· September 1, 2020

How, as persons concerned with the state of the world, can we be most effective in shifting and changing the subversive and destructive patterns that are currently operating and governing how people are living today? How do we cultivate sane, direct, and compassionate ways to respond to the continuing spread of the COVID-19 virus, the climate emergency, the movement of Black Lives Matter, and the raising of consciousness around systems of oppression and white supremacy in this world? Faced with these challenges, many of us find it difficult to remain open, receptive, effective, and compassionate.

Join Lama Liz Monson for a six-week course focusing on the energy of wrathful compassion as this is expressed and experienced in Tibetan Buddhism through the often-misunderstood symbolic figures of wrathful deities. Rather than being only a gentle and accommodating state of mind, compassion includes a spectrum of forceful, resilient, and uncompromising energies with which to engage in the world as it is.

Together we will explore how to access these transformative and healing energies within ourselves, thereby uncovering the power of our own intrinsic compassion and resilience. Discovering the fire of our fierce compassion can provide us with the tools necessary to navigate and metabolize both our difficult emotional states as well as to approach the suffering of the world today with strength, precision, responsiveness, and sanity. Some examples of wrathful Tantric deities include Simhamukha, Dorje Trollo, Ekajati, and Vajrakilaya.
