The Wisdom of the Body: A New Year Retreat

The Wisdom of the Body: A New Year Retreat

· January 1, 2019

Do you have a meditation practice that has begun to feel mentalized, or a yoga practice that has become routine? Join the Natural Dharma Fellowship Sangha for a retreat that brings wisdom, equanimity, compassion and peace down from the realm of ideation into the truth of lived experience.

The key to accessing real wisdom—the kind that releases us into enlightenment– lies not in our mental acuity, but rather in our ability to be radically, lovingly, wakefully present. Wakeful presence is not a mental state….it is embodied. In the words of the Hevajra Tantra “Great wisdom lives in the body”. The freedom that we seek is not as a mental transformation, but rather a psychophysical one.

Beginning with the theory that body and mind are primordially unified, the Buddhist yogic path integrates our physical life with cognition, stillness with movement, and breath with attention. The yogic path of awakening plumbs the body’s hidden wisdom through a journey into four layers of embodiment: the physical layer, the energetic layer, the awareness layer and the layer of integration. Through this inner somatic journey, our karmic knots are gradually loosened and released.

Join Lama Willa Miller, and assistant teacher Janine Grillo Marra in the winter wonderland of the White Mountains of New Hampshire as we deepen together in the Buddhist yogic path of awakening, learning meditation practices, asanas and ancient movements to help us approach a more authentic and embodied wisdom. These techniques can form a path unto themselves or be used to radically enliven an already established meditation or yoga practice.

If you have not yet experienced Wonderwell Mountain Refuge in the depths of winter, you are in for a treat!
